Miles That Are Easily Redeemed Online
Earning airline miles is fairly easily, but redeeming them can sometimes be a major hassle. Especially if it involves having to call a customer service center and relying on their representatives’ knowledge to find award availability. Luckily, not all airline rewards programs are set up that way. There are quite a few that fly internationally, have a decent number of partner airlines and/or make it easy to book awards online. Here’s a round-up of airline miles that can be redeemed online:
Alaska MileagePlan. Alaska miles are one of my favorite currencies. Alaska miles can be used to redeem many partner airlines online. These include awards on Delta, Hainan Airlines, Japan Airlines, Emirates, and Korean Air. That’s actually very helpful in booking award tickets to tons of destinations. The only way to improve on this would be if Alaska included KLM and Cathay Pacific in their award search tool.
All Nippon . The great thing about ANA Mileage Club isn’t just some of their incredible award chart suite spots, but that you can redeem miles online – for partner awards! You might be thinking, “But I can use United to search for Star Alliance awards.” To an extent, yes. However, United blocks Singapore award space while ANA doesn’t. Though it does district some classes of service on certain flights. That being said, ANA miles are fairly easy to come by thanks to the airline’s partnership with Starwood Preferred Guest. Don’t have any SPG points? You can stock up with the Starwood Preferred Guest Card and Starwood Preferred Guest Business Card from American Express.
British Airways Avios. Whenever I need an award flight to the Middle East or Asia, I head over to the British Airways website. After logging in, members are able to search and book a myriad of partner award flights online. This includes partners like Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific, American, Qatar Airways, and Royal Jordanian. Being able to book and redeem these awards online is super helpful. The best part? British Airways Avios are incredibly easy to earn thanks to a host of transfer partners and credit cards. British Airways is a transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Starwood Preferred Guest.
Korean Skypass. Korean Skypass offers very generous award space in their own first class, which can be booked online. But did you know Korean Air also allows partner award bookings online? Partner awards that can be booked online with Skypass miles include Saudia, China Eastern, and China Southern. That’s great for folks who are looking for an easy tool to book awards to Asia or the Middle East.
United. United MileagePlus has long been one of the most easy redeemable airline miles. Through their website, you can redeem miles for travel on many Star Alliance partners like United, Lufthansa, Turkish, EgyptAir, and All Nippon to name a few. MileagePlus is a great currency for those who don’t have a lot of time to devote to learning award rules.
Keep these airlines in mind the next time you’re searching for award tickets or saving up for an easily-redeemable award flight. Being able to hop online and book an award without a middle man is incredibly useful. Hopefully this makes your next award booking much easier.
Does ease of redemption factor into your mile earning-and-burning strategy?
