The Best Places to Stay in Cuba on Points And Miles

Cuba is an exciting place buzzing with vibrant colors and culture. Experiencing Cuba as a US citizen is not always so easy, but today US-based companies are submitting bids to bring points hotels into Cuba. This is going to make it even more convenient to use your points and miles for Cuba travel.

Presently, Starwood is the only US-based company that has a points property available in Havana, but other brands have announced intentions to make the move to Cuba as soon as possible. For now, though, SPG rewards members can redeem points at the Four Points Havana and will be able to redeem points at the Hotel Inglaterra at the end of next year. Those with Marriott points also have the option to transfer at a 3:1 ratio to SPG and book SPG properties.

If you aren’t a member of the SPG family (soon to be the Marriott family) then you can always redeem your points to get to Cuba, and check out some other great properties. Here are a few ideas to get you started on your next adventure to Cuba!

Four Points By Sheraton Havana

For SPG rewards members visiting Cuba, the Four Points is a pretty good option. A night at this Category 5 hotel starts at 12,000 SPG Starpoints, but the property will likely be re-categorized after the Starwood-Marriott merger creates a brand new points and rewards system. The interior of this hotel gives a warm and sunny vibe, offering natural lighting and lots of open space. Note that every guest must (of course) fulfill the travel requirements to legally enter Cuba, fill out an affidavit to be presented at check-in, and agree to strict terms and conditions regarding cancellations and changes. However, once you are all set with the legalities, you will be free to enjoy the close proximity to the town and sea as well as a lovely outdoor pool. If you are looking to redeem SPG Starpoints in Cuba, this is your best bet!

Hotel Inglaterra

Inglaterra, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Havana

Starwood struck a three-hotel deal with the Cuban government back in 2016, but this was before the acquisition of Starwood by Marriott International became final. This also made Starwood the first US hotel to open since relations between the US and Cuba soured in 1959. Now that Marriott will absorb all of Starwood’s properties, at least one more of the new hotels has been given an official opening date. Inglaterra will be a part of the Luxury Collection and is set to open on December 31, 2019. It isn’t bookable yet, but this might be nice for a New Year’s Eve getaway if you’re looking to plan that far ahead!

Casa Colonial La Terraza

Now, let’s look at a few properties where you cannot redeem points, but are worth checking out. Casa Colonial La Terraza is a quaint and cozy guesthouse with simple amenities and charming views. Starting at just $25 per night, this property is the perfect place to unplug, unwind, and enjoy central Havana. The friendly atmosphere is perfect for travelers who are looking to become a new part of the charming host family, as well as those who wish to enjoy close proximity to a wealth of Havana attractions. If you book with a credit card the Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard, you can use your points to offset the cost of the hotel.

Hostal Vista Park Santa Clara

Hostal Vista Park Santa Clara

If you will be visiting Santa Clara, check out the colonial Hostal Vista Park Santa Clara. This hostel boasts a large terrace with panoramic views as well as a convenient location with easy access to entertainment and cultural centers. A night here is priced at $25 for one or two visitors, and then $5 per extra person up to five in one room. The owners, Miguel and Noelys, are available to help visitors at all times; Miguel will even meet you at the VIAZUL station and Noelys is said to serve excellent food!

Villa El Habano

If you are looking to connect with nature and spend some time outside of the city centers, check out Villa El Habano in the Viñales Valley. The brightly colored façades of the villas compliment a stunning backdrop of green palm trees and rock formations in the Parque de Viñales. Priced at just $30 per night, this is the perfect getaway for those who are seeking some peace and quiet. Visitors can even ride horses through the Viñales Valley with Riding Viñales. Enjoy winding your way towards stunning viewpoints and underground rivers that can be accessed through caves. If an outdoor adventure sounds like fun, this is the perfect place to be.
